SPL: ABERDEEN 2 DUNFERMLINE 1: 07/11/98

PATONLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH

One down from a second minute Eoin Jess goal, the Pars could have been four down by half time had the Dons taken their chances. Jess and Hignett were denied by Butler and the crossbar too took a rattling. Andy Tod was all at sea playing in midfield. The passing and distribution was attrocious. Aberdeen who are meant to be as bad if not worse than us played us off the park in the first half.

Marc Millar came on for the second half with Andy Tod dropping back into defence. This did give Dunfermline a stronger midfield and the fans enjoyed the pressure put on the Aberdeen goal right in front of them at the beach end.

Jamie SQUIRES latched on to a long throw and drove home a good goal. But within two minutes (while Dunfermline played with 10 men while Templeman was replacing the injured Petrie,) Jess turned the defence and drove low passed Butler’s left to restore the Dons advantage.

Butler and Shields have to receive credits for their efforts but two men don’t make a football team.
